On May 16, 2024, in Thường Xuân, Thanh Hoa, the Mavin Group in collaboration with World Vision Vietnam donated 12,000 breeding ducks as part of the Livelihood Support Project for the period 2022 - 2024.
In addition, households were sponsored with 45 tons of animal feed, veterinary medicines, vaccines, livestock supplies, and received training from Mavin Group on duck farming techniques according to strict procedures to ensure biosafety.
Before receiving the ducks, feed, and medicines, farmers were also advised by Mavin Group on farm management, livestock farming techniques, and disease prevention.
The program benefited 120 households, including poor households, ethnic minority households, those with children and women as primary laborers facing difficult circumstances, selected by World Vision in communes including Lương Sơn, Thường Xuân Town, Thọ Thanh, Xuân Cao, Luận Thành, and Luận Khê. Each family received 100 ducklings along with feed, medicines, and supplies. Mavin and World Vision also committed to accompanying and advising farmers throughout the entire farming process to achieve the best results in sales.
This is the third year of the program's implementation in Thường Xuân district, eagerly anticipated and embraced by farmers as it contributes to creating sustainable livelihoods and reducing poverty for hundreds of families. In 2023, it's estimated that on average each farmer made a profit of nearly 4 million Vietnamese dong after the program, a significant source of income for poor households, helping them address urgent family needs. Additionally, participating farmer groups voluntarily contribute 10% of their income from the program to a common fund to support the spread of duck farming models to other poor households in the area.
Despite the rainy weather on the day of receiving the ducklings causing difficulties in transportation and delivery, the joy and excitement of the local people remained high.
"The most touching thing for Mavin after three years of implementing the program in Thường Xuân district, Thanh Hoa province, is that the program not only helps farmers escape poverty but also helps them confidently purchase more breeding stock and continue to maintain and develop their family's economy. In this way, we not only help farmers increase their income but also help them access effective livestock farming techniques and safe livestock products, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam's agriculture sector," shared Mr. David John Whitehead, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mavin Group.
It is expected that farmers will complete the duck farming process and sell this batch by the end of June 2024. In addition to the program in Thường Xuân district, Mavin Group and World Vision are also considering expanding support packages to Quan Hóa district, one of the poor mountainous districts of Thanh Hoa province.
